How to use this page

This is practical guidance from the directory team for Lee, Collier, and Charlotte counties. A figure appears here only when a public page states it, or when it is a list price already stored in the directory homeowner resource file. This page does not estimate a local installed total or a financing offer.

Cards for the articles and products matched to this topic, including Water testing, are at the bottom of the page. The full collection is on the homeowner resources page.

A list price is the equipment price recorded for one product. An installed price is a quote for a house. Where no sourced figure exists, the page lists the cost factors and the lines a written quote should itemize.

Testing fees that are published

The Florida Department of Health private-well page (opens in a new tab) says a county health department can explain how to collect a sample and have it tested, and it describes that fee as usually $20-30 per sample. It describes a staff visit to collect the sample as an additional $30-40 per visit. Those are the department's own words. Checked October 30, 2026.

The Lee County Environmental Laboratory recommended test list (opens in a new tab) publishes fees for individual drinking-water tests. Checked October 30, 2026. The fees on that page for the tests named below are:

  • Coliform bacteria, presence or absence: $25.00.
  • pH: $6.00.
  • Chloride: $12.00.
  • Hardness (calcium and magnesium): $36.00.
  • Iron: $18.00.
  • Manganese: $25.00.
  • Total nitrate plus nitrite: $18.00.
  • Nitrite: $12.00.

Mail-in and strip tests on file

The test products below are list prices in the directory homeowner resource file. Checked October 30, 2026. They are not the Lee County laboratory, and a strip kit is not a coliform bacteria result from a drinking-water laboratory.

Equipment list prices on file

Each figure below is the price text stored for that product in the directory homeowner resource file. Checked October 30, 2026. The link opens the product page recorded in that file. The figure is not tax, fittings, a drain, electrical work, or labor, and it is not a quote from our team.

The softener and the iron and sulfur filter are whole-home equipment. The reverse osmosis systems are under-sink drinking-water units, so they are not a whole-home price. The resource file describes the UV system as usually installed by a pro, so that list price is the equipment price on the seller page.

Repeat purchases on file

Salt and a replacement membrane are also stored in that file. Each line is one product list price, checked October 30, 2026. It is not a yearly total. How often you buy salt or a membrane depends on the water and the equipment, and this page does not calculate that.

Installed work, without a sourced labor price

This directory does not have a sourced price for installation labor in Lee, Collier, or Charlotte counties. Do not read the list prices above as an installed total.

The cost of an installed system moves with the test, the size of the job, and what the quote includes. Ask for those pieces in writing before you compare two companies.

  • The test result the equipment is sized from, including the name, the number, and the unit.
  • Make and model of each piece of equipment, and which result that piece is there to change.
  • What the equipment leaves unchanged, including bacteria if the quote is only for hardness or taste.
  • Equipment price and installation labor on separate lines.
  • Plumbing changes, a drain for backwash, electrical work for a UV lamp, and haul-away, each on its own line when it applies.
  • Any permit the company says the job needs, as its own line.
  • What is not included.
  • Who pays for salt, filters, membranes, or UV lamps after installation, and on what schedule.
  • Warranty: what it covers, how long, who honors it if this company closes, and what voids it.
  • Service visits: how often, what is included, and the price of a visit that is not included.
  • Whether the price still stands if you wait and get a second written quote.

Financing questions to ask

Our team does not have a financing offer to publish. If a company offers a loan, a rental, or a lease, ask for these answers in writing. A monthly payment by itself is not the price.

  • What is the APR, and does it stay the same for the whole term?
  • How many months is the term?
  • What total will you pay if you make every scheduled payment, including fees?
  • What does the financed amount include: equipment, installation, permits, and service, or only some of those?
  • Is this a purchase, a rental, or a lease? Who owns the equipment during the term, and who owns it at the end?
  • What do you pay to end the contract early?
  • Who services the equipment, and what happens to the warranty if you buy instead of renting?
  • If the offer is described as free or no money down, is the equipment a rental or a lease?

LISTINGS

Companies that list these services

Each link opens the provider list filtered to a recorded category. Confirm the service, the service area, and the test method with the company. Water testing has its own category. If that list is empty, ask a well or filtration company whether they test, and send bacteria samples to a drinking-water laboratory either way.

  • Water testing. Water testing, including a laboratory bacteria sample, before a price is compared.
  • Water softeners. Water softeners. The GE list price above is equipment, not a listed company's installed price.
  • Water filtration. Filtration, including iron and sulfur equipment. The SpringWell list price above is one product, not an installed quote.
  • Reverse osmosis. Reverse osmosis. The APEC and Waterdrop list prices above are under-sink drinking-water units.
  • Installation. Installation. Ask for labor as its own line. This page does not have a sourced labor price.
  • Repair and maintenance. Repair and maintenance, including salt, filters, membranes, and UV lamps after the equipment is in.
